proud to be a yarn whore

Wednesday

Yummy stuff!

There are so many things in this "photo collage."  Yeah right.  Atop my unmade bed and flannel sheet with duvet cover in the corner (TMI!!!), here are some of my happies.  I made the tote from cloth napkins (clearance at Pier One) and ribbon.  Am making the pink-n-green scarf on the pretty plastic purple needles (Pony Pearls) out of Crystal Palace Squiggle and Fizz.  Am making the shawl (blues and reds) on circular bamboo needles out of CP Raggedy in a dropstitch pattern.  I f'd it up and need to figure out how I want to fix before I move on with the shawl.

I made this totebag from a $1 kitchen towel from Target and more ribbon.  This is the third incarnation of this Berocco Denim Silk yarn, which I bought when I first started to covet the color combo of pink-n-brown.  I have finally found a pattern that I like.  Am wondering if silk can be blocked, as this will clearly need it.

My spoiled kitty Rocky was allowed to touch my new prized yarn, the recycled silk from Mango Moon that I bought yesterday at the new LYS.  Will use my CP bamboo 11s to make a bag and then am thinking belt.  This yarn is so soft and colorful.  If it wasn't $20 a hank, I would have bought more.  There's always time... ;)

S v S TEST

Am I sick from being sick or just sick from all the stress I put on myself? The test?

Yarn of course.

New and fabulous local yarn store. They don't have as much variety in yarns or prices as my other LYS, but they do have goodies I've never seen in person. Including RECYCLED SILK!!!

I have been coveting some recycled silk ever since I started being an online yarn whore. I have seen a few different brands online, but this shop carries Mango Moon. What's supercool about recycled silk yarn is that it is the waste from the sari-making industry, and women spin it into yarn and make some money for themselves. Plus it's amazingly beautiful and so unique looking. Gorgeous texture and vibrant color.

No time for pics right now--later tonight.

So I treated myself to a skein of this yummy, yummy yarn. Am thinking I will knit a bag.

And methinks I am feeling like dogshit from stress, not real sick, because that yarn makes me feel some serious shades of happy.

Even the imaginary knife that seems to be stabbing my left eye today seems to be on coffee break.

Oh happy yarn buying. SEX is good.

Thursday

KNITTING BLOGGITY GOODNESS

Am sure that now that pink-n-green is EVERYWHERE, I will tire of it shortly. Until then...

I was looking over old blog stuff tonight. My main blog, nance's stuff, seems to have taken quite the shift over the course of its journey. Especially since I have decided to allow knitting to consume most of my energy.

So the time is now for the knitting to get its own blog. Not that I won't comment on the stuff blog about knitting, but I can really let 'er fly here.

Soooooooooooooooooooo...
SEX today...Michael's for some dishrag cotton (Sugar-n-Creme) that I like to practice new patterns on, and my mom loves knitted dishrags, ribbon yarn to try out the ballet slippers in Simple Knits With a Twist, some stitch markers and a cabling needle that was on clearance.

Online SEX included the first foray into knitpicks.com. I bought brown Merino wool to make...la la la! My First Sweater. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Swearing will surely follow. Am also trying out some bargain priced alpaca and alpaca silk. Will foray into lace, as v cute scarf was pic'd in Last Minute Knitted Gifts.

Soooooooooo...some of the works in progress...
--purse; Zeeby's bag from SnB, but made out of Moda Dea TuTu in pear and pink and purple
--scarf; regular garter stitch scarf made out of Crystal Palace Squiggle and Fizz
--shawl; Crystal Palace Raggedy, knit lengthwise in garter and drop stitch
--scarf; third time is the charm for the Berocco Denim Silk, garter and dropstitch
--poncho; is already knit in furry yarn--asymetrical big triangle--just needs sewing

Am clearly Maggie Righetti overachiever. She says keep two projects going at once. I got that beat and then some.

Planned projects...
--wool shawl/giant scarf; to be made from Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Bulky (yeah, I already bought the yarn)
--baby booties
--hat for my cousin who shaved her head because of chemo; I really should bump this project to the top of my list
--socks; I want to learn to make socks
--brown merino cardigan

Yes, I could go on.

But all I have really succeeded in doing tonight is more avoidance of the grading of the student papers.

At least I got to write about knitting.
